ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY
IN AN INDUSTRY 4.0 WORLD

ECOSYSTEMS MAPPING PROJECT

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Map Northern Melbourne’s Assistive Technology cluster and ecosystem to determine its: innovative capability; ability to navigate the technological challenges of industry 4.0; and capacity to adopt new 21st century approaches that increase the sustainability, efficiency and productivity of local companies. And then apply this strategic intelligence to support local companies diversify into the rapidly expanding Assistive Technology market.

AUSTRALIAN FIRST

This is the first time an Assistive Technology ecosystem has been mapped in Australia.

WINNING CONTRACTS

Our WinningClustersLive data analytics and spatial mapping technology generated strategic intelligence to support our project team accelerate new investment and start-up opportunities by:

  1. Analysing business performance to optimise business collaboration.

  2. Pinpointing business synergies and networks that can fast track joint-venture formation.

  3. Activating co-creation opportunities to increase Australian made and designed products, and improve the lives of people with disabilities.

AUSTRALIAN DESIGN AWARD

We were all thrilled when Space Tank Design picked up two Australian design awards to produce personal protective equipment (PPE) by tapping into the assistive technology network we had created.

GENERATING COLLABORATIVE MINDSETS

“Thanks for the inspiration and helping to get our company into this exciting future", says Ken Woollard, Director of ULTRLIFT, an award-winning Australian designer and manufacturer of motorised and automated lifting devices for audiovisual equipment. “As a result of my company's collaboration through this project, we're now partnering with some really smart local Melbourne companies to develop practical solutions to improve the lives of the elderly and disabled while creating Australian designed and made products.”

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY NETWORK

Through this project over a 2 year period, we were able to activate a network of some 50 design, software, engineering, advanced manufacturing and furniture design and manufacturing companies and some 30 aged care and community health providers.

Our thanks go to all the companies and organisations that supported our process of going collaborative! And committing to change! Despite Melbourne’s prolonged Covid-19 lockdown!

This project was initiated by Proactive Ageing and co-resourced by Rodin Genoff & Associates.
